Accessing Counselling Services from Miss Roland
Good news! Counselling (academic or social-emotional/mental health) can still happen despite the fact that we aren't at school. There are a few options on how to conduct counselling, and the best option will vary depending on your circumstances and comfort level.
In all cases, we will get started via email ([email protected]).
If you are looking for a "regular" counselling check-in to discuss life, your mental health, a bit of everything, etc., send me an email indicating that you need to chat (even if we've never chatted like this before). For your own privacy, you do not need to get specific about the details that you wish to chat about in the email. I will respond to your email, and we can arrange a time and method for a counselling appointment. Together, we can decide if a phone call would be best or if you would prefer to video conference. I have found an easy to use, secure website that is specifically designed for this sort of thing. It takes extra precautions to protect your privacy and allows us to maintain confidentiality. Keep in mind, the usual confidentiality parameters are still in place. I'll remind you again when we begin talking. Both phone and video chatting have pros and cons. (I know, a video chat feels kinda weird... but the perk is that we can at least read each other's facial expressions which is sometimes helpful). We may even try one method and then decide to switch to the other method. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make. It's most important to me that you are comfortable and in control of the situation.
If you are looking solely for academic counselling, giving me an overview of your question(s) in the initial email would be helpful. In that initial email, please let me know the best way to respond. I can respond via email for strait forward queries, or we can arrange for a phone call or video conference if it is more appropriate or comfortable for the situation.
